A side-scrolling brawler, Young Thor is instantly accessible, but with enough depth to avoid making the experience too repetitive. While it’s tempting to simply mash the Square button, developer Frima has done a good job of scaling the experience, introducing new enemies that demand new strategies. My own play style evolved as I learned to add more jumps and dodges while chaining Thor’s lightning magic into combat.

You won’t need to grind to beat Young Thor, but you might find yourself revisiting earlier stages for the fun of it — and to find some of the well-hidden treasures, which grant powers like double jumping, health and magic regeneration.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has just launched a new website catered to parents looking for tips and tutorials on safe gaming for younger players. PS-PlaySafeOnline.com includes explanations of the PS3′s parental control settings function, security features for registered PSN Online IDs, and advice on what to do when faced with online jerks.

The entire site is wrapped around a strange (and way too cheery) Egg-man character, who seems to waver been non-threatening and subversively creepy. Our only real gripe? There is no glossary term for PlayStation Home’s “Quincying” phenomenon. Everyone must be warned.

Assassin’s Creed Explores More History in New DLC

Ubisoft let some details slip today about the two forthcoming chunks of Assassin’s Creed 2 DLC, due at the end of January and end of February respectively. In “Battle of Forli,” you’ll defend Forli (surprise) from the Orsi brothers with the aid of Machiavelli and Caterina Sforza. With six new memories, the DLC will allow you to “accomplish a daring rescue and prevent the Piece of Eden from falling into the hands of the Templars.” Also, the flying machine is back!

In “Bonfire of the Vanities,” you and Machiavelli will free Florence from “the grip of the mad monk Savonarola” by offing his underlings in ten memories. There’s also a new district of Florence, and a new move for Ezio: the spring-jump, as if his similarity to Luigi wasn’t already striking enough.

As many have speculated, the two additions fill in the missing sequences (12 and 13) from the game

My students hate creating timelines but maybe this will be the answer to that problem. I only wish that the HISTORY was a little more far reaching, in depth and comprehensive.

What does 15 years of PlayStation look like? Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has opened a brand new site celebrating the legacy of the PlayStation platform, featuring a timeline of Sony’s major gaming hardware releases, beginning with the launch of the original Japanese PlayStation on December 3rd, 1994. Sony’s handheld holds a majority of those dotted events, with every version of the PSP (from the 1000 to the Go) represented.

The “15″ year logo is a fun potpourri of various accessories released throughout the brand’s history. In addition to SingStar microphones and Buzz! controllers, you can see Sony playing homage to UMD, PocketStation and rubber ducks — stars of the initial tech demos for both PS2 and PS3.

Santa has added a layover in PlayStation Home to an already-packed holiday itinerary. On December 10, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is opening up a new PlayStation Home space that allows you to see Santa’s workshop through the unique Home filter — by which we mean it’s now kind of eerie.

This Thursday, the Watchmen will come to save LittleBigPlanet from hoodwinks, in a new costume kit that allows you to assume the identities of four key characters from the acclaimed graphic novel, and its recent movie adaptation.
